NHTSA Recall 12V519000
Filed by Mack Trucks, Inc.. Component: Electrical System. Reported 2012-10-18. An estimated 260 vehicles are affected. Recall repairs are free at any authorized dealer.
Defect
Mack Trucks is recalling certain model year 2008-2009 GU, LEU, and MRU trucks, manufactured from December 12, 2007, through May 8, 2008 and equipped with a certain focal mounted retarder control box. The control box may lose its electrical ground.
Risk
If the control box loses ground, it may have localized overheating. This could lead to a vehicle fire.
What the manufacturer will do
All affected vehicles were sold to one customer that has already been notified. An official owner notification letter will be mailed to the one customer in early November 2012. Mack will replace the suspect control box on the affected vehicles, free of charge. Owners may contact Mack Trucks at 1-800-866-1177.
