Filed by HME, Inc.. Component: Vehicle Speed Control. Reported 2014-11-03. An estimated 5 vehicles are affected. Recall repairs are free at any authorized dealer.

Defect

HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain model year 2000-2006 1871 emergency vehicles manufactured January 1, 2000, to March 15, 2006. The mechanical springs used to return the accelerator pedal to idle after the driver lifts their foot off the pedal may break.

Risk

If the springs break, the pedal may not return to idle once the driver lifts their foot off the pedal. This unintended acceleration increases the risk of a crash.

HME has notified owners, and dealers will replace the affected pedal assemblies, free of charge. The recall began on November 14, 2014. Owners may contact HME customer service at 1-616-261-3626.
