STEERING 91V142000 1991-08-26 125 affected
Defect

GILLIG CHASSIS MAY HAVE STEERING DRAGLINKS WHICH COULD SEPARATE FROM THE STEERING GEAR PITMAN ARM DUE TO AN ASSEMBLY ERROR THAT INSTALLED TWP 1/4" SPACERS, WHICH PREVENT PROPER TORQUING BETWEEN THE DRAGLINK AND THE PITMAN ARM.

Consequence

IF THE DRAGLINKS WERE TO SEPARATE WHILE THE VEHICLE WASMOVING, STEERING CONTROL WOULD BE LOST AND A VEHICLE CRASH MAY RESULT.

Remedy

REMOVE TWO 1/4" SPACERS, REPLACE AND RETORQUE THE LOCK NUT AND COTTER KEY. ALSO, INSPECT THE DRAGLINK SOCKET ASSEMBLY AND PITMAN ARM FOR WEAR AND REPLACE AS NEEDED.
