Defect

THE TWO BRACKETS USED TO MOUNT THE TILT/TELESCOPING STEERING COLUMNS TO THE DASH MAY EXPERIENCE FAILURE DUE TO FATIGUE STRESS; CRACKS IN THE RADIUS AREA AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LEFT BRACKET COULD PROPAGATE UPWARD UNTIL BRACKET FAILURE OCCURS.

Consequence

FAILURE OF THE STEERING BRACKETS CAN LEAD TO LOSS OFVEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy

INSTALL NEW REDESIGNED STEERING COLUMN MOUNTING BRACKETS.
